CLARINS was founded in 1954 thanks
to the passion of one man, Jacques
Courtin-Clarins. He had always been interested in beauty but not just any
beauty… the one that goes beyond the superficial. And this founding commitment has remained strong for
60 years.

In 1957, he decided to develop a new approach to face and body treatments.

After listening to clients at the Beauty Institute, located at 35, rue Tronchet in the 8th arrondissement in
Paris, he developed a few luxury products based exclusively on plants.

Today, Clarins products are distributed in over 150 countries worldwide, following the philosophy of Jacques
Courtin-Clarins: to offer clients the very best in beauty, with honesty and respect.

Listen. Think. Act. This is the story of Clarins since it
began. In his Parisian beauty institute, Jacques
Courtin-Clarins worked with his products day after day,
perfecting the formulas after listening to the comments of
his clients.

This marked the beginning of a very private "beauty dialogue" between the brand and women.

One that continued with the Client Card in the 1960s, then in Clarins Skin Spas throughout
the world and finally on the internet… Online and offline, this dialogue with women has
never stopped.

1954. Clarins Institute opened its doors at 35, rue Tronchet, in Paris. Women quickly
spread the word, thanks to the incredibly effective Clarins Method.

When the first products were marketed, Clarins developed Application Methods so that
women could optimize product effectiveness themselves, at home.

It's from this Science of Touch, at the very foundation of the Clarins
story, that the Treatments were created with their very precise
protocols and pleasurable, effective textures. Combined with the
science of plants, it is the guarantee of Clarins effectiveness and

Convinced of the effective benefits of plants on the skin, Clarins made it a brand
philosophy, its expertise and its science. In the 1950s, the first 100% pure plant
extract oils for the face and body were created.

At the time, this was a very innovative concept. Sixty years
later, the amazing beauty secrets of plants continue to inspire
Clarins researchers and ethnobotanists in all their cosmetic
skin care and make-up innovations. And so Clarins herbarium
also continues to grow, with every new scientific and
biomimetic discovery.

Clarins Laboratories was the first to obtain
Good Laboratory Practice accreditation from the
French agency for the safety of health products.

At Clarins, we believe in Responsible Beauty - beauty that respects the planet,
our stakeholders and future generations. Responsible Development is a
voluntary yet concrete approach that all of our employees put in practice on a
daily basis.

Since the early 1990’s, we have been supporting biodiversity protection and reforestation programs in France, the Amazon, Peru, Thailand and China. Clarins also develops social action programs, in particular the Most Dynamic Women program which started in 1997 and supports women who devote their energy to improving the lives of disadvantaged children; and FEED, an organization working with the World Food Program to fight hunger worldwide.

This year, we launched a new program, aimed at
funding microenterprises developed by Asian
women to restore degraded environments, protect
biodiversity and limit our impact on the environment.
Women who implement projects funded

by our Women and Nature program develop new sources of income linked to reforestation and
sustainable agriculture. This year, for our 60th anniversary, we committed to plant 60,000 trees in
Thailand as part of this program. This is a symbolic and significant gesture that will continue expanding in
the future.

1954 The First 100% Pure Plant Extract Oil Launch Clarins 100% pure plant extract oils have laid the foundations for modern aromatherapy. These genuine concentrates of nature with exceptional properties were originally used exclusively in the Clarins Beauty Institute. They were later marketed by Jacques Courtin-Clarins in 1965.
