Castor bean

This bush grows across Europe and can reach 1-4 meters in height. In countries where the plant originated, across tropical Africa, it can reach heights of 12-13 meters! The use of castor bean can be traced to 4000 B.C. where it was known in Egypt as a seed oil. Castor seeds have been found in ancient tombs. Castor bean has been used to help treat acute bronchitis and pneumonia. The plant’s leaves, when applied fresh or slightly faded, help calm arthritis pain. This type of application is also recommended for burns and headaches. In ancient Egypt, castor bean was a choice ingredient for hair care, lashes and nails.
